In this short guide we are going to look at some tapered curling wands, otherwise known as conical wands. These differ from your standard curling wands in that the barrel decreases in size from top to bottom. This allows you to have tighter curls at the bottom of your hair. Straight barrels can’t really give you this look, but the good news is that there are quite a few affordable and decent ones currently available on the market. We haven’t reviewed any of the below ones at the time of writing (except for the Remington Pearl), so we have linked to some user reviews for each product which we strongly recommend you read before making a purchase. Now lets have a quick look at some of the popular ones.
Remington Pearl
This is without a doubt one of the most popular tapered wands you can buy right now – the Remington Pearl. We reviewed it ourselves a few weeks ago, so we won’t go over all the details as those are in our review. We definitely had some really great results with it in our testing. It is cheap, and comes with a range of features. It does a great job too, and comes in the sizes of 1/2″ – 1″. and 1″ – 1 1/2″. With a retail price of under $30, it is a really good buy. It has a ton of positive user reviews, and you can see those and check the latest price over here. |
Conair Infiniti You Curl
Another very popular choice right now is the Conair Infiniti You Curl. It comes in two variations, the original and the XL. The Original barrel size is 1/2″ to 1″, and the XL barrel size is 3/4″ to 1.25″. It has a tourmaline ceramic barrel, and can heat up to 400F. The startup time is 30 seconds, and it has four different heat settings to choose from. It comes with a safety glove, and has a five year warranty which is quite good for a budget curling wand. Like the Remington above, the You Curl has hundreds on positive reviews on Amazon, so you can take a look at those and the latest price here. |
Hot Tools Tapered Iron
Another curling wand that seems to be very popular right now is the Hot Tools wand. This one comes in three different sizes, the bigger 1 1/4 – 3/4″, 1″ – 1/2″, and a small 3/8 – 3/4″. This one has a Rheostat temperature control built into the side of the unit, and heats all the way up to 450F. It has a heat resistant swivel cord, and has a safety stand you can use to prevent the unit from burning anything. The retail price is a little more than the others, but it is one sale at the time of writing. It has a one year warranty, and like the others has many positive reviews on Amazon. |
Cortex 4-in-1 Pro Set
If you are looking at a set that comes with tapered wands, then the Cortex 4-in-1 is what you need. This is a professional grade set, and comes with 4 interchangeable barrels. The barrels are made out of ceramic tourmaline, and it can be heated up to 450F. It has a digital lcd on the front, and has a programmable auto shut off. The cord is quite long at 11 feet, and the swivel cord keeps it out of the way when you are curling your hair. Unlike the others, it comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
